FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER

 

The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program is the backbone of Canadian immigration. It provides an excellent opportunity to the individuals who have work experience and are willing to work and live in Canada.

As of January 1, 2015-The Federal Skilled Worker program applications are being processed through EE or Express Entry immigration selection system for immigration to Canada. Applicants qualified under the Federal Skilled Worker Class program must create Express Entry profile online to show their interest for Canada immigration.

 

Here is a brief summary of what you need to know:

 

  • You have previously worked in an occupation in the NOC 0, A or B categories for at least one year.

  • Applicant must be eligible for the program under the assessment grid and points system based on their age, qualification, work experience, and other adaptability factors, with a score of 67

  • Before applying, you must have your Education Credentials Assessment with you

  • You must have passed a minimum threshold of language ability for one of Canada’s two official languages (English/French)

  • Dependent children under the age of 19 (on date of application) are eligible to be included

  • You should have sufficient funds to survive in Canada after arrival

  • You should not have any health issue or criminal record as this will make you ineligible for immigration

When you apply through Express Entry, you get an Invitation to Apply, where you get 60 days to submit a complete application along with all the supporting documents

FEDERAL SKILLED TRADE

  Canadian Immigration started the taking new applications under this extremely popular category of Federal Skilled Trades in January 2013. This program has a quota of 3000 applications that will be accepted in one year. There are 43 Targeted occupations referred to as skilled trades that are eligible under this program.

Determine your eligibility — Skilled trades

Minimum requirements to be eligible, you must:

​

  •  Plan to live outside the province of Quebec (Note: The province of Quebec selects its own skilled workers. If you plan on living in Quebec, see Quebec-selected skilled workers for more information),

  •  Meet the required levels in English or French for each language ability (speaking, reading, writing and listening),

  •  Have at least two years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the five years before you apply,

  •  Meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC), except for needing a certificate of qualification, and

  • Have an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.

CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS

  • CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS:

  • If you have worked in Canada under proper authorization then Canadian Experience Class program is for you. Canada Experience Class program identifies the candidates who have contributed significantly to the Canadian economy by completing their studies and working in Canada. For many international graduates, Canadian Experience Class may be fastest option for achieving Canadian permanent residence. Self-employment and work experience gained while you were a full-time student (such as on a co-op work term) doesn’t count under this program.

  • Minimum requirements - To qualify for the CEC through Express Entry, you must have:

​

  •  At least 12 months of skilled work experience in Canada, in the last three years (before you apply). The work was: 

  • a) full-time OR.

  • b) an equal amount in part-time.

  •  Gained your work experience in Canada with the proper authorization.

  • Meet the required language levels needed for your job for each language ability:

  • a) writing

  • b) reading

  • c) listening

  • d) speaking

  • Planned to live outside the province of Quebec.
